So I added a +1 button on the blog so people with Google Plus can rate the blog up, though I'm not exactly sure why that would be desired. Rating up does require a Google Plus account, and I had to think to myself "What the cat is Google Plus?" So I did some research on Google Plus (Wikipedia) and this is what I found in summary (rant after page break):
Google Plus is pretty much Google's attempt to control the Internet (much like my idea of nsfw-words-here.com) where Google makes so many products and services it becomes a necessity. In the case of Google Plus, the service is social networking. I looked around and it is not as good as Facebook, mostly since it's privacy policy sucks even more than Facebook's does. The services it provides is pretty good in relations to Facebook and integrates all of the other Google products, something Facebook can never achieve. One of the reasons why Google Plus won't work though is something called the network effect. The idea of it is that the more people have a specific networking tool (phones, Facebook, mailboxes, etc.) the more useful it becomes for networking. For example:
If two people have phones, then there is one connection available. If four people have phones then six connections are available. If five people have phones then 9 connections are available. The more people that can use a networking service then the more connections available, which makes the service more useful. Right now Facebook has about 901 million users while Google Plus has about 90 million. There is more chance to communicate with someone using Facebook.
So I advise ignoring the +1 button unless you already have a Google Plus for some odd reason.
Got a random Google plus account from my sister...
